Considering this is my third pregnancy, I still really don’t know anything!  First of all I had no clue that we were pregnant!  I thought there was something medically wrong.

My husband & I use Natural Family Planning which involves charting all of my fertility signs.  But I was also still breastfeeding throughout the night which means that I wasn’t getting the full 3 hours of sleep to accurately chart my waking temperature.  So I assumed that I wasn’t ovulating because I didn’t have the post-ovulatory temperature spike.  The rest of my fertility signs were difficult to decipher (although I’m still confused as to why it was difficult).

So because I thought I wasn’t ovulating and I had a slight increase in weight, I assumed that there was something medically wrong. I took my charts into my doctor, he told me to do a pregnancy test and because I was so sure that I wasn’t ovulating he ordered some blood tests as well just in case the pregnancy test was negative. I was so sure I wasn’t pregnant that I waited about 4 or 5 days before actually taking the pregnancy test. Lo and behold, here we are again pregnant for the 3rd time.

Now you would think that because I’d already been pregnant twice before that I would have some inkling that I was pregnant, but I really didn’t. And I really don’t think I was just in denial – I know with practicing NFP, pregnancy is always possible. With my first and second pregnancies I knew I was pregnant, but not this time. Maybe it’s because I’m so consumed with my other two children and the rest of my life that I never really gave it much thought.

Another clue that I really don’t know anything was after my first prenatal doctor visit this week. My doctor informed me that my uterus is quite small. A while back I was chatting with my sister-in-laws (both of whom are also pregnant), for some reason we were discussing uterus sizes. I had said that I thought mine was already quite large because it didn’t have a lot of time to get back to its normal shape. I started showing early, which normally happens with consecutive pregnancies, so I just thought that my uterus was that big when in actuality it is quite small. Silly me!
